New invention: Infant warmer
Mothers and mothers to be will really be glad about this one so here we go. Today,I was surfing the net and stumbled upon this article. It's about one of the latest science invention called Infant Warmer created by two graduates of Stanford University. It's an infant incubator for premature babies and needs no
electricity to work. It's also reusable and can be sterilized too. According to the description, the Infant Warmer looks like a tiny sleeping bag and has a pouch which contains a phase-change wax material that radiates the required heat (37 C or 98 F) needed for the infant's survival during the incubation.
Now this is how it works: The pouch is removed from the Infant Warmer and placed in a hot water for 15 mins. It is placed back in the Infant Warmer and then the premature baby will be put inside for the incubation process. The phase change material maintains the heat for four hours. It absorbs heat when the baby is too hot and gives heat when the baby is too cold. Super cool right? This is a wonderful invention that will really help families with premature babies and reduce the cost of keeping their babies alive through the use of regular incubators which we all know can be pretty expensive. We can only hope this Infant Warmers will one day get to families in the underdeveloped/developing countries. Below is the image of the Infant Warmer
